Go for pine kitchen units

Reclaimed wood is a cheap and eco-friendly way to update your kitchen cabinets, and creates a rustic feel. If you invest in reclaimed kitchen furniture choose wood with a natural finish and country-style design, such as pine, oak or wood that's been left untreated.

Go for a neutral kitchen scheme

A new traditional-style kitchen can be as simple as a couple of coats of paint. This soft grey colour is a great neutral shade that creates a tranquil feel. Accessorise with rustic enamelled bowls, dishes and utensils and choose white marble worktops and splashbacks to lift the look.

Invest in an AGA

An AGA is the quintessential backdrop to a traditional-style kitchen and can instantly give your kitchen the traditional touch. If you can't afford an AGA there are companies who recondition old ones, and there are  cookers that have an AGA-look.

Get farmhouse kitchen style

Steal classic farmhouse style with a butler's sink, characterful oak base cabinets and a wall unit with plate rack. Plate racks are perfect for putting a traditional stamp on your kitchen and are a brilliant storage option for small spaces. Tongue-and-groove splashback panels can give a sink area a farmhouse dresser feel and are super-cheap.

Butcher's block

A two-tone colour scheme is the perfect template for a traditional kitchen. Colour-match cupboards, tiles and decorative items and invest in a butcher's block - it provides an additional worktop and instantly turns a regular kitchen into a traditional kitchen.
